Undercover video reveals shocking truths about North Korean society

The television show Frontline recently aired a special on PBS about the shadowy totalitarian nuclear hermit state of North Korea.  While the propaganda machine present inside the nation attempts to white wash the society’s ills, the videos allows these gestures to be seen as empty.  Stores are stocked with goods from around the world, and state television broadcasts images of the stores, but the goods are not for sale.  In fact, the warehouse style building called “Department Store #1” has thousands of items and citizens of North Korea are not allowed to purchase a single thing.  Not that many North Koreans would be able to afford such luxuries, as 80% of the nation’s population lives in absolute poverty.
